It may feel daunting going to a new church, either from a different church, for the first time in a while, or the first time ever! Greenbank is a friendly and welcoming church, and below are some helpful questions and answers to help you feel informed before you come along.

When do I come?

On Sunday the church is usually opened about 10:00 am for the 10:30 service.

How do I get in?

The main door is on Eaglesham Road.

What do I wear?

Whatever you want, there is no dress code and these days most people dress casually with comfort in mind.

Will I be welcome?

Everyone is welcome and there will be folk on the door to welcome you.

Can I bring my children?

Yes, of course! Children are most welcome. During term time, our Sunday Club leaves during the service for some fun activities with the children in the manse. When Sunday Club isn’t on, there’s a table of activities at the side of the church.

Do I need to become a member of the Church?

Everyone is welcome to all our services. If after time and reflection you want to commit yourself further to the work and witness of the church, it is possible to โ€œjoin the churchโ€ after instruction and by taking vows.

What happens during the service?

As you enter you should have been given an Order of Service which will give you the basics of how the service will proceed. Generally, we stand to sing hymns and sit with head bowed to pray. The order of service is shown on large screens, including the words of the hymns, so you don’t need to pick up a hymn book. The service lasts about 45 minutes.

How much does it cost?

Nothing! All are freely welcome to attend. A collection for the ongoing work of the Church of Scotland locally, nationally and internationally is taken as you enter the church, but there is no obligation to make a donation. If you wish to give, a donation can be made in cash or by card. The majority of people put nothing in the offering as many give by standing order, so you neednโ€™t feel embarrassed if you donโ€™t want to give.

Is the church easily accessible?

During the current building work there is no level access but the service is streamed on YouTube. We apologise for this but, hopefully, by mid April our new level access from Mansefield Road will be in use.
Should you need to use the induction loop for your hearing aids, the system works best in the central area.
If you find it difficult to read the screens, there are hymn books available.
If you require a large print version of the Order of Service or hymn book, please ask one of the people on duty at the doors.

Will I get to know people?

There isn’t a lot of time to chat during the service, but we offer tea and coffee (currently in the manse) after the service. So please go along and take the opportunity for a cuppa and chance to meet people.

How do I find out what else is going on in the church?

The back page of the Order of Service has announcements about what is happening. You can also visit this website regularly for updates, particularly the ‘News‘ page. Our monthly magazine, the Good Neighbour, also contains lots of information and news.

If you would like to be added to our mailing list, email the church office – office@greenbankglasgow.org.uk

Are there toilets?

There is one toilet in the church itself, just off the transept. Until our new annexe is built, the only other toilets are in the manse where there are 2 toilets, one on the ground floor and one upstairs.

Is there parking?

Not within the church grounds. There is plenty of street parking nearby.
